November 28 2023 - Novochizol titration with diethanolamine
The starting material was 80 ml of 1% Novochizol::0.5% succinic acid solution in a 150 ml beaker, with a magnetic stirrer.
The PH of this solution at 20 C was 4.18
The beaker was put on a stirrer and 1000 microl of diethanolamine, diluted 10-fold in deionized water* was added. This resulted in chunks. They were dispersed with a probe sonicator quite easily. PH was measured and the procedure repeated.
* 10x-diluted diethanolamine can be filter-sterilized (0.2 um syringe filters)
The following results were obtained:

This means that to reach neutral pH to 1 g Novochizol::0.5 succinic acid one must add 875 mg diethanolamine.
At this pH the solution has the consistency of a loose gel. It can be pipetted without a problem:
Recommendation: to prepare the materials it is recommended to use large volumes (e.g. 10 ml) to minimize errors ( the solutions are quite viscous) and to find a way to shake the mixture vigorously ( sonicator is best).
